I am planning a build with a nice set of Zircote I have but can't decide on a trim chose. What do you think?

I would use Zircote bindings cut from the sides if possible with BWB purfling. Super clean look.

That does sound nice Joey. I'll keep that in mind.

Also, if you have pictures that would be great

When in doubt, ebony. It should also do a nice job of picking up the ink lines.

Steve, I was leaning toward a macassar ebony. I have a nice piece I could cut it from. But then maybe the Zircote idea would work well. I also have some beautiful flamed koa I was thinking about

Agree with Steve,
Ziricote is busy, solid trim to give it some balance..... in my opinion of course.

Spruce top? I'd say African blackwood with single maple veneer back/side purfling. Curly if the soundboard has bearclaw.

"When in doubt, ebony"

Or black plastic..... beehive

Italian olive wood might make an interesting binding for ziricote

I have used ebony and curly koa and both worked out real nice.

I am planning a sinker redwood top on this one. I guess that will make a big difference on the way it looks.

Fred,
They are both beautiful. Your work has been outstanding and one of my favorites for many years !!!

I was thinking about doing a beveled armrest on this one and I do have some nice Koa veneer. But the ebony one is also terrific and I have some great macassar!!!

Just about half way through a French polish of one myself... this has ebony with maple/black/maple side purflings with a rosewood and maple bajo sexto-inspired purfling on the top and back

On my three ziricote builds I have used ziricote binding with either maple purfling or m/b/m purfling. On the included picture it has m/b/m but if I do it again I will go with slightly thinner maple lines. The nice thing about ziricote, especially if you use off cuts from the sides, it that the color match is perfect. Macassar Ebony could look nice, but unless you have some stock on hand the color match for what you get may be a little off.

I do like the binding on Fred's guitar, though since the golden color really goes well.

I've done two with ebony and thin maple purfling, hope to do more. I also like the simplicity of ebony against the busier ziricote.

Ah, now that's different. Unless you're going for a specific dark look (in which case you also need to consider the neck color), then I'd say use something at least as light as koa. Maple may be too much, though. Satinwood is a possibility. Also cherry. Ivoroid would dominate the look, but may be cool.

Holly --- Curly Maple would look good too.

I particularly love the look of Ebony and bloodwood against ziricote. I have another one going currently with a similar scheme. Image

Ken, Pat is right, it is stunning. I had never thought of bloodwood purfling

I have a ziricote guitar build in progress. The ebony with bloodwood purfling is gorgeous. Hmmm

There are so many beautiful guitars here. I usually go for a dark wood binding like EIR or ebony but Fred's koa version keeps drawing me back. I'm thinking I can't go wrong with any of them. Thanks for posting!!!

Does the bloodwood oxidize to brown? Was reading that today on another thread.

Is there anything that doesn't look good with ziricote?

I tend to like neutral wood colors....
I forget the wood that this was... i just remember AL saying it was related to poison ivy... must be why i am always itching to play!
I also remember it being figured and therefore split whenever you looked at it. Had to make about 4 complete sets before I got enough to make it all the way around.
